The Fumagalli Gallery was founded by Alberto Fumagalli in 1971 at Via Giorgio Paglia 28, in Bergamo. The cultural choices made by the founder established a domestic and international programme that occasionally peaked at extremely high levels, such as in the cases of the personal exhibitions of Rafael Soto, Victor Vasarely and Tancredi.
Over the years, the gallery has moved its physical location on more than one occasion, returning to its original venue in Via Giorgio Paglia 28 in 1990.

The Fumagalli Gallery is one of Italy’s most prestigious private galleries, a status that is also acknowledged in the rest of Europe. Its reputation is based on the consistently high quality of the exhibitions it organises and of the publications that accompany them.

Since 1995, the gallery has been directed by Stefano Fumagalli and Annamaria Maggi, who decided to pursue a programme with an historical focus on Italian and international Abstract and Informel art, recently also incorporating an observatory of younger artistic experiences.
A great many exhibitions have been organised in the course of the last twelve years, accompanied by publications of quality.

The Fumagalli Gallery organises 4/5 personal exhibitions every year in the extensive spaces available in its premises in (650 mq), featuring artists of international renown who attract significant numbers of visitors and important media coverage. These exhibitions are designed by specialised architects, whose creations achieve considerable visual impact.

The Gallery also takes part in 2 important international art fairs: the Cologne Fair, which is held in November, and the Bologna Fair, held in January.
Also on these occasions, the Gallery’s stands feature large format works of high quality, made by the artists especially for the occasion.

The Fumagalli Gallery also manage the archives of: Agostino Bonalumi, Enrico Castellani, Giorgio Griffa and Giuseppe Uncini, Marco Tirelli e Gianfranco Pardi.

Another very important feature of the Gallery’s activities is its publications (the Gallery is also a publisher in its own right, with the brand name of Edizioni Galleria Fumagalli).
The catalogue of books already published comprises 50 titles (published from 1991 to the present day), nine of which were published on behalf of museums in Italy and other countries, while one is a critical catalogue of the works of the artist Carla Accardi.

The artists with whom the gallery maintains a special relationship are: Carla Accardi, Agostino Bonalumi, Lawrence Carroll, Enrico Castellani, Umberto Cavenago, Pietro Consagra, Jim Dine, Chiara Dynys, Piero Gilardi, Paolo Ghilardi, Giorgio Griffa, Jannis Kounellis, Nataly Maier, Giuseppe Maraniello, Nunzio, Gianfranco Pardi, Pino Pinelli, Giò Pomodoro, Marco Tirelli, Giuseppe Uncini, Grazia Varisco, Claude Viallat, Richard Wilson, Peter Wüthrich, Claudio Verna and Gilberto Zorio.
